Jean Daret''The Birth of the Virgin'', Flemish Renaissance, Religious Old Master, 1600's Large Antique Oil Painting. A superb, large and fresh to the market original oil on canvas depicting the Birth of the Holy Mother Mary. Painted here as a domestic scene with Mary's mother Anna resting in bed after the birth of her child and with her husband Joachim seated beside her. The baby Mary is cradled by two attendants with another nearby and a fourth woman is warming a blanket in front of the fire.
Condition is good commensurate with age, having been re-lined, cleaned and re-varnished. Minor paint loss associated with restoration and overall in good, restored condition.Housed in a good wide gilt contemporary frame. The image dimensions are approximately: 29 1/2'' x 27 1/4'' (75cm x 69cm).

Jean Daret was well known for his versatility in subject matter and was highly sought after for his religious works.
