It is stamped on the lid & is impressed with the words Wilder P. Clark was born in 1832 in Chesterfield, Cheshire County, New Hampshire. He began a wooden-ware wholesale business in 1872 in the town of Winchendon, MA, and started manufacturing in his own right from 1883, specializing in tubs, pails, firkins and other types of wooden-ware. Wilder was a member of the legislature. He served in 1877, 1879 & 1883 with some of his committee assignments being on treasury expenditures and manufactures in 1892 among others.
It measures approximately 12 inches tall with handle down, 18 inches with handle up, by 12 3/4 inches across base by 10 3/4 inches inside opening by 12 1/8 inches outside outer rim cover diameter. It is in great antique condition. With typical scattered honest usage & wear marks throughout, small spot of wood loss on outer edge of banding on lid.
At some time scattered helper nails added on outer edge banding of lid & at bottom underside base to stabilize. One side handle peg/mushroom cap looks to have been replaced. String twisted on handle unsure of purpose. Some staves slightly dry & loose but is secure. Please see all pictures for more details.
