This is a fantastic New England old painted antique wooden firkin sugar bucket with lid & swinging handle. It has been painted a fabulous old blueish green over a possible original black/dark green as can be seen on a few scratched/chip area's. Bottom underside base when held just right in light reveals a date of 1892 B. It measures approximately 9 1/2 inches height with handle down & 14 inches with handle up by 9 3/4 inches across base by 8 inches inside opening by 9 1/2 inches outside cover diameter.
The bucket is in wonderful antique condition with great honest wear & usage marks. Top side of lid has a tiny old nail pop.
We think that the lid may be a marriage as there is a slight difference in banding, lid is slightly over sized for firkin as inside edge of handle rubs slightly on side of lid when in upright position. Top coat of paint is an obvious later edition. Great primitive look & would be fabulous as part of a stack!
