Antique Hawkins Cast Iron Ice Hockey Skates Stamped March 1865 Made in Derby, Connecticut, USA. Hawkins Patent March 28, 1865. Still has all screws for top side adjustment. Also has original screw key for length adjustment. Beautiful original & complete condition considering these are 157 years young. Toes are marked R (Right) & L (Left). This is a rare 1865 Ice Hockey Skate Made by H. Some stamped marks are hard to read. Maker is William Minton Hawkins, Derby, Connecticut. Hawkins was known to be involved in the foundry business in Derby, Connecticut. These were referred to as "Shirley" skates. With marked "Shirley" patents, April 12, 1859 & June 25, 1861 and "Hawkins" patent, March 28, 1865.
Pair of steel ice skates with open-work lattice shoe mounted on slightly curved runners with toe and heel clamps. Amazing that the patent was approved on March 28th, 1865 just a few weeks before the Civil War ended on April 9th, 1865. This item is in the category "Antiques\Primitives".
