Beautiful original & complete condition considering these are 157 years young. Toes are marked R (Right) & L (Left). This is a rare 1865 Ice Hockey Skate Made by H. Some stamped marks are hard to read. Maker is William Minton Hawkins, Derby, Connecticut.
Hawkins was known to be involved in the foundry business in Derby, Connecticut. These were referred to as "Shirley" skates. With marked "Shirley" patents, April 12, 1859 & June 25, 1861 and "Hawkins" patent, March 28, 1865. Pair of steel ice skates with open-work lattice shoe mounted on slightly curved runners with toe and heel clamps.
