Old Japanese Wood Kanban Shop Trade Sign Rice Merchant Mid 20th C Showa 19x22

  
An old Japanese rice merchant Kanban shop sign, 22" x l9", and weighs 18 pounds. Carved hardwood with paint and gilt work. Carved woven rope surrounds the edge with decorative knot at the top. Probably from the Mid-20th century / Showa Era. A similar design is illustrated on page 138 of the book KANBAN: TRADITIONAL SHOP SIGNS OF JAPAN.
