The drawing is very closely based on an etching of a boar hunt by the Italian artist Antonio Tempesta, from his seventh series of hunting scenes. The drawing bears very close comparison to Tempesta's plate, but in addition to being slightly smaller there are subtle differences in detail throughout, noticeable on close inspection when both can be compared side by side. The drawing bears the following inscription in Italian to the lower margin: Dedicata al Nobil Uomo Sig Gio Parenti delle belle arti amatore e promotore Illustre del suo umilissimo, e devotossimo Servo Giuseppe Fortini. This inscription appears to demonstrate that the inscription and drawing are by a certain Giuseppe Fortini, and that he executed this drawing in homage to his patron Gio.

The inscription is divided by an armorial device representing the arms of the Parenti family. The old form of's', the general style of the handwriting, the spacing of the mesh of the laid paper used would seem to date the drawing and inscription to at least the third quarter of the 18th century, possibly earlier. Why an 18th century artist would have gone to so much trouble making a drawing after Tempesta's etching is somewhat of a mystery. The fact that this drawing is executed freehand and with extraordinary skill can be clearly seen in the images provided.

The drawing itself measures 28cm by 19cm. Medium: Ink on laid paper.

The drawing will be dispatched loosely rolled in a tube between sheets of acid free tissue paper. Please feel free to ask any questions.
