Up for sale here is an original one of a kind , antique circa mid 1930s to early 1940s framed oil painting on canvas by listed New York City / Cincinnati, Ohio artist Albert Sway (born 1913 American Artist). The subject matter of this work is an interior scene with Woman Dressing.

It is painted much in the style of this artist's circle of the Ashcan School and reminds us a bit of a John Sloan piece. This oil painting is being offered in a newer circa 2000 solid wood picture frame made in the artist and crafts style. The size of the oil painting only is 22 inches high by 13 inches across. The total size with the frame comes to 29 inches by 20 inches. The painting is signed by the artist in the upper left corner. The painting was taken off the stretcher bars and re-stretched on its original vintage stretcher bars. The work has a more recent cleaning but it does still require a bit of restoration as there are two tiny holes in the canvas one measuring about 1/4 inch in diameter and one which is a small indentation in the canvas. There are also several areas of white canvas primer showing through where the painting most likely had been over cleaned in spots but it is not too distracting to the overall composition and the work still retains nice defined brush strokes. No paint flaking , not much in the way of paint cracking. Albert Sway is listed in the published books Davenports Art Reference and Price Guide and Who Was Who in American Art.

He studied art at the Cincinnati Art Academy and the Art Student's League in New York City. He exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Art Students League, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the 1939 New York Worlds Fair and many other prominent public exhibitions. He has artwork in permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and probably other public institutions information was from various sources compiled on the site askart(tm).
