16th Century Flemish Antwerp Old Master Portrait Of A Lady Joos Van Cleve. Portrait Of A Woman, 16th Century. Fine early 16th Century Netherlandish Old Master portrait of a young woman, oil on panel. Early and important study of a woman similar to two other works by Van Cleeve, one an unidentified portrait of a women the other a portrait of Margaretha Borge circa 1518. All three studies carry very similar perspectives of the sitters and technical treatment but also have very distinct differences in the overall composition.

Its highly likely the work is by Van Cleeve or his studio. Panel is in good condition, thick wood with no woodworm and slightly bowed. Surface has natural craquelure, generally clean and stable surface.

Presented in a superb unique antique renaissance frame. Provenance: private Cambrodgeshire collection of Old Master paintings. Measurements: 28" x 23" approx framed.
